The Rewilders: Who are the people bringing back Britain’s Wildlife?

With one in four British mammals on the brink of extinction, Britain’s wildlife sits on a knife-edge.

Josh Taylor investigates rewilding; the large-scale restoration of ecosystems where nature can take care of itself, which can involve the reintroduction of keystone species, such as beavers, wolves and lynxes.

Perhaps more important, Josh Taylor meets the people trying to rewild Britain and finds out what drives them, a love of wildlife? Money? Something else?

Who are the rewilders?

A Visual Game

Have you ever wondered what it must be like to be a football fan, but also be blind? The two may sound like chalk and cheese but some blind and visually impaired football fans are being offered a service that could change everything.

A Visual Game takes its listeners through the special service that is audio description football commentary. We hear from fans, commentators and others, who take a deep look at what’s being done for a group of fans so often left in the dark.

Outside The Clinic

The harassment and intimidation of staff members at abortion clinics has drastically increased over recent years.

This is a seven minute radio documentary which explores the effect pro-life protesters have on members of staff who work in the termination sector of healthcare.

It looks to draw the line between freedom of speech for protesters and harassment-free working environments for service providers.

Game, Set, Mental Health

Mental health has become a much more open topic of conversation in recent years, but there are still some industries where a stigma remains attached to the subject of struggling psychologically. Game, Set, Mental Health takes a deeper look at the mental struggles tennis players face whilst on the professional tour, and how they and the sport’s key organisations are working to break the stigmas surrounding the still taboo topic of mental health within the sport. The documentary also turned to those in power at the Association of Tennis Professionals and Women’s Tennis Association to ask what support is already on offer and how this will be further improved for the future.

To find out more about this project, visit my production blog and Twitter.

If you are affected by any of the issues mentioned in this documentary you can get mental health support in the UK by calling the Samaritans at 116 123 available 24/7. Or you can find additional help and support here.

Gaslighting. Does It Still Burn Bright?

Gaslighting is an insidious form of domestic abuse designed to make the victim questions their reality and become more subservient.

It can have critical mental health implications including anxiety and depression.

According to the Crime Survey for England and Wales year ending March 2019 an estimated 5.7% of adults experienced domestic abuse in the last year.

Of this number, 746,219 were recorded as domestic abuse-related crimes.

This is an increase of 24% from the previous year.

Freya Hodgson investigates why gaslighting still burns bright within intimate relationships and how we can extinguish its scorching blaze.

Required To Report

The NSPCC has estimated that 1 in 20 children in the UK have been sexually abused.

Despite this, staff in regulated activities have no legal requirement to report known or suspected sexual abuse.

Required To Report explores why campaigners want a mandatory reporting law and what problems it could cause.
